An MRI examination requires a clinician’s order (sometimes called a requisition, request, or referral). A referring provider's office staff will telephone our office to set up an appointment.
As a courtesy, patients are requested to notify Metro MRI Center 24 hours in advance if it is necessary for them to cancel their appointment.
MRI is a unique imaging modality for visualizing various tissues in great detail. However, in order to choose the proper technical factors from the numerous pulse sequences available for the most diagnostic study, it is essential that the referring provider be as specific as possible in describing the anatomical location and the nature of the suspected pathology. In other words, which area will we be imaging and why? Detailed clinical information provided at the time of scheduling assures that the correct study will be performed. Each study is tailored to the needs of the individual patient.
At the time of scheduling, the following information should be provided:
Due to static and oscillating magnetic fields used in MRI, great caution must be used in screening each patient prior to the MRI examination. Magnetic Resonance (MR) procedures may be contraindicated for a patient because of the risk associated with movement or dislodgement of a ferromagnetic implant, material, device or object. Attention to previous surgical history and metal exposure the patient has had is of great importance. Our staff continually updates and references current MRI safety issues, to assure patient safety in the MR environment.
