With the recent advances in Breast MRI we have made the commitment to offer the latest in Breast MRI as an option in breast cancer diagnosis, staging, and follow-up. Breast MRI will be an integral part of our center's large and diverse portfolio of MR examinations.

Metro MRI offers:

  • MR Mammography
  • MR-guided breast lesion localization
  • MR-vacuum assisted biopsy
  • Hologic Biopsy

At Metro MRI Center, we combine personalized, expert breast MRI with progressive technology. The experience and dedication to early detection has led Metro MRI Center to thoroughly research the technologies available that would best serve their patients. For the patients who come to Metro MRI Center for their diagnostic testing, the experience is not only about the equipment and technologies; it's about the staff and the compassion they show for their work.

State-of-the-Art Technology

Metro MRI Center proudly offers advanced applications in Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). With the development of a specialized breast coil, and computer-aideddetection (CAD) breast evaluation software, we are able to achieve the most accurate breast MRI diagnostic results. Breast MR imaging has emerged as a very promising modality because of its high sensitivity for detection of single and multi-focal breast cancer. While it is still not accepted as a routine screening examination, it has proven useful in problematic breast cases.

A Complementary Diagnostic Tool

MR imaging of the breast provides important complementary diagnostic information, supporting your patient's first line x-ray mammography exam. MR imaging can be helpful in the high risk patient, the patient with indeterminate recent imaging studies, or the patient with recent negative imaging examinations, but who have a high index of suspicion for breast cancer. In the patient with a known breast cancer, MR mammography is helpful in detecting multifocal, multicentric, or bilateral disease. MRI is also the ideal imaging modality for evaluating the augmentated breast when implant integrity is in question.

Procedure

MRI does not carry the inherent risks of radiation and can be repeated as often as needed. During an MRI examination of the breast, the patient lies on her stomach, with the breasts suspended in the breast coil. After the scanning table is moved to the center of the magnet, an intravenous contrast agent is administered during the acquisition of data. The amount of data produced per breast MRI examination often exceeds 800 images, but the scan time is typically 30 minutes. With computer-aided detection, dynamic enhancement curves are produced. This computer derived data and the breast images are then evaluated by one of our highly-skilled radiologists.

Commitment

With the recent advances in Breast MRI we have made the commitment to offer the latest in Breast MRI as an option in breast cancer diagnosis, staging, and follow-up. Breast MRI will be an integral part of our center's large and diverse portfolio of MR examinations.

Clinical Indications for Breast MRI

Based on the expert opinion and peer-reviewed literature, the following clinical indications are considered appropriate and useful applications for breast MRI.

An initial Breast MRI exam should be performed under the following conditions:

Menstrual Cycle:

Scan between day 5 and 15 of cycle

Hormone Therapy:

Discontinue use for 1 month

Hormone Creams:

Discontinue use for 1 month

Chemotherapy

Wait 6 months after completion (unless assessing response)

Radiation Treatment to Breast:

Wait 6 months after completion

Surgical Procedure to Breast:

Wait 6 months to evaluate for local recurrence

Birth Control:

Scan between day 7 and 13 of cycle

Estrogen Blockers, Inhibitors & Suppressors:

Patients can be scanned, but Metro MRI must be informed at time of scheduling

Breast MRI Lesion Localization can be performed at any time, providing the initial Breast MR exam was performed following the correct guidelines.

*Scanning a patient outside of these parameters could result in false positive/negative results.

Clearly focused on you.
